The most discouraging part of it all was the women who wrote letters to the editor against the ERA. They just didn't want to become real persons; they were safe and happy as appendages of their husbands.
And now recently, in response to something I wrote, a female blogger said: "I'm not a feminist. I just live my life the way I want to." I reminded her that one hundred years ago she wouldn't have been able to say that, and it was because of all the feminists [as you have so superbly illustrated] that she could now make the choices she has. Brava. I'm following.http://solowomenathomeandabroad.blogspot.com/https://www.blogger.com/profile/00116246897231606697noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989017208846872303.post-41297940579990011022012-03-11T10:01:51.666-05:002012-03-11T10:01:51.666-05:00Unfortunately, I have found that women are less li...Unfortunately, I have found that women are less likely to come together to support one another, as they used to do. Just as another astute commenter pointed out, women just don't know what feminism means anymore. I believe this is because of the media; it has a negative connotation, not a positive one. I wrote a long post about Rush Limbaugh's big mouth the other day. If you have the time, I would be honored if you were able to stop by to read and comment.Cricket of Tripping Tuesdayshttp://www.trippingtuesdays.com/2012/03/rush-limbaugh-apologizes-but-he-should.htmlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989017208846872303.post-55898403565556736062012-03-04T10:09:18.204-06:002012-03-04T10:09:18.204-06:00Elizabeth is right... sometimes I think the conser...Elizabeth is right... sometimes I think the conservatives want to "divide and conquer". If they can keep women busy in-fighting, we'll be too busy to notice as they quietly pass laws taking away rights and putting restrictions on our body and reproductive health. My husband and I were just talking about how if the government and healthcare companies were talking about limiting Viagra or Cialis, there would be a huge uproar. There's still a double standard in this country, and like you, I am most frustrated by women who stand by and let it happen. Look... however other women find happiness and fulfillment is their choice - if they find it in a traditional role, that's fine with me! But when they seek to push their beliefs and lifestyle on other women is where I have a real problem. It makes me crazy too!Michelle Goertzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12172411869924577048noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4989017208846872303.post-1560796859661502362012-03-03T14:37:03.198-06:002012-03-03T14:37:03.198-06:00Great post, Lea!
"Feminism isn't about ...Great post, Lea!

"Feminism isn't about women being better than men, it's about human beings being equal REGARDLESS of gender."

Exactly! But the biggest problem right now seems to be that not even women know what feminism means anymore. And they are so busy fighting against each other, and putting each other down, (or fighting over what feminism does mean) that instead of making forward progress, we are moving backward. It is beyond frustrating.Elizabeth Flora Rosshttp://about.me/eflorarossnoreply@blogger.com
